RE: What to set acumulator tank pressure to?

The air psi needs to be slightly lower than the cutin psi of the pump to get the most drawdown capacity out of the accumulator. I started out by setting the air psi much higher than the pump cutin, then I thoroughly purged all the air out of the water system and let the pump naturally come up to the cutout point. Then I SLOWLY let air out of the bladder til the pump came on, then gave it one tiny pssst extra. This way sets it right on the money without needing to know exactly what the actual pump cutin psi is and no need for gauges to cause any error. Craig

RE: recomended fifth wheel brands

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another used 5er and you can get mid-upper quality for 35K. I could shove my 5er off a cliff and not be out of as much money as what all my new 5ers depreciated in 3 yrs. Craig

RE: 2006 Dodge Diesel Truck

I drive a 92 C and 04 F at work and they have about the same miles as my 03 D and my D has had the fewest problems. My only problem is the ac dampers but the C and F at work also have that problem plus several other issues. My D and the C are equally good driving and the F is nothing to write home about. Overall my D is MUCH more reliable and not been back to a shop since some warranty work but the C and F still go back almost regularly. Craig

RE: Bye Bye Timbrens...what next?

I have airbags with a big expansion tank and I cut the bottom OL springs off. The bottom OLs is what was causing my BIG rebound. The exp. tank REALLY helped the downward movement cuz the bags don't pump up so much relative to the travel. Now my dually rides better than the 1/2T SB I used to have. I also really like the rancho 9000s, hooked to my incab controls, to finetune the ride. Craig

RE: what brands without lippert frames

Sunnybrook used to use Leland and now Dexter. I know the Lelands were STRONG (I've had 2 of them) and I haven't heard of any problems with Dexter. Craig

RE: Dually owners, need your opinions

I was between D & C when I got my dually. F had way too many engine problems and poor mpg. C had some heating problems with their diesel and D didn't have tow/haul but I think both C & D fixed all that in the 06 and later. All the 07.5+ diesels have emmissions from hell. Craig

RE: 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 HEMI Sanity check

Just had a carpet cleaner at the house w/hemi 3/4T and a trailer with his cleaning machine. His mpg is about the same as the Dodge v10s. I get the same mpg towing my 5er as he does unloaded. You'll be glad you only do 6-8 camping trips! I've found it's cheaper overall just to have one vehicle. 18.6 is my worst mpg unloaded and 11.9 is the worst towing in the mtns and blasting up the hills as fast as it can. Craig

RE: 2008 Dodge DRW Manual Trans

I kinda remember when the 03s/48re were first built, people complained about the high OD of the 48re with the 3.73s but the people with the 48re/4.10 said they were perfect for heavy towing. I think they have the 48re if the build date is mid 03+ or if it's an HO (305hp). The engine tag on the left front will give the hp. 3000rpm@60mph sounds like 4.10 to me. Mine is faster than 60mph at 3k. The 03s show the ratio on a tag inside the glovebox door. You can probably get them changed for under $1k if you really have 3.73. Craig

Yeh, I love my 4.10s and from what I've read, they are awesome with the 48re auto. Craig

RE: 2" Flexable Duct Source

Measureing the temp rise IS one of the most important measurements - it proves if there IS enough airflow and anybody can operate a thermometer. The furnace mfgr will say what is the max temp rise but it's usually about 75 degrees - 65 degrees is pretty normal. BTW, I've been doing hvac work for 33+ years. There actually are some old residential systems that used 2" supplies - I know where there is still one in existance. Coleman used to make residential furnaces (slightly better quality than their mfgr'd home and rv junk) and they liked to run 4" supplies, for some reason. It works but not cost effective to have to install so blasted many supplies! Craig

RE: 2" Flexable Duct Source

You can check the temp rise before and after you make this change. Then you could put in a bigger diffuser(s) somewhere else to get the temp back down. Less temp rise is more efficient, anyway. Craig

I use mine all the time to save the brakes. Mine is connected to the ecm so it can't come on til fueling is at zero or if the cruise is on. I put an on/off on the shifter and only turn it on when I want it. Craig

RE: twin turbo F150 - 24 mpg

There's not much chance of winning a mpg battle with a F diesel. The absolute worst mpg I get empty is 18.6 and that is summer (A/C never turned off) city driving. I've only been on the open road one time empty (cuz I'm usually towing on the open road) and got 22.36 at 55-60mph sightseeing. Oh yeh, I have a dually 1T with a HEAVY hauler bed and 4.10s to top it off! And I hand calc every tank I use - not that my OH puter is very far off. The OH is usually low. Craig

RE: Water Heater Won't Ignite

Mine old WH had problems staying lit for several outings. I kept taking the spark rod out to clean it and that would keep it working til the next trip. The porcelain insulator had a dark mark that wouldn't clean off - carbon tracking. I tried cleaning all the connections and even added a large ground wire from the module to the rod and nothing worked long term til I replaced the rod. Atwood $35, ebay $5 delivered. Cleaning the ground connections is also important cuz the module gets a 1/2 wave rectified signal thru the flame that is measured in microamps - yeh, millionths of an amp. Mine works flawlessly again. Craig
